Robotic - Questions and answers

Q: Why the name Robotic?
A: The name Robotic was taken partly because that I myself are trying to look at things as containers for certain events, tasks or feelings and partly for the fact that a robots actions is clearly defined for a specific purpose and/or task. Also the name Robotic fits as a pretty good description for how I generate my music on machines and other electronic gadgets.

Q: About the record Drewicate, what does the word Drewicate mean?
A: The title of the album has confused a lot of people who has been wondering from where I did find the name for it and especially what it really means.

Originally the word "drewicate" is generated with a mathematical principle called a Markov Chain. The word doesn't mean anything. It is just based upon a mathematical probability that simulates a word that sounds and looks like a real word. However I have myself, during the work with the album, found a meaning in it.

The word Drewicate means a state in which you are so frustrated that you can draw all surplus energy from it and use it for a creative process, Thommie says.

Q: Is there a new record out soon?
A: Yes, hopefully during the spring of 2007, if everything runs smoothly, the name of the album is going to be Cavitate.

Q: What influences from other artists does Robotic have?
A: I get my influences from everything I experience. Everything from a ticking clock to a feeling and of course from other bands, but, there is a but, I myself tries not to listen so much on others while I am focused in my work with an album. In long periods I only listen to my own work.

Q: What instruments does Robotic use?
A: First off I have to say that I use everything at hand and I belive one should because there is so many people that belives that the use of high priced or well known labeled keyboards, guitars or equipment is the only way to be a really cool and good musician, composer or artist. I don't work that way. I use whatever equipment I feel that gets the job done and that gives me the sound I want.

I do not really like dropping names on equipment but on the record Drewicate I used a PC with Soundforge, Propellerhead Reason versions 2.0 to 3.0, Cubase SX, Visual Text to Speach, Wavelab and then some VST-plugs and for the hardware part I used a Evolution MK249C/2 midiclav, a Novation K-station, a Behringer UB1002, a JMX DM720S mic and some really cheap headset amongst other stuff.

I mean, haha, really, who cares?

I also have, during the years, been using Madtracker, Fasttracker, Readplease, Korg MS20, Roland S50, Casio FZ1, FZ10M and CZ-101, Korg Poly 800, rail from SJ, acoustic guitars, tins, cans, bicycles, organs, drummachines of various kinds and a whole lot of other stuff. Use whatever it takes. That's my advice.
